Paddy Henery was born in County Clare Ireland, in 1834 and
arrived in South Australia at the age of 12. He gained considerable experience
in the sheep industry at bungaree and Oraparinna Stations before Settling
at Alpana Farm in 1878.
Initially he purchased 130 acres of land, near Blinman town. His Dream was
to grow fodder crops to supplement feed for the bullock teams hauling copper
ore to Port Augusta from the Blinman Mine.
His vision faded with the introduction of the North South Railway. 120 years
later Alpana, managed by John and David Henery spans 51,000 acres and
runs 3,000 Merino sheep.
A full day on Alpana includes a visit to the original pine & pug cottage, the Bald Range Lookout, natural springs and river cascades.
Following the wide gum lined creeks, that open to breathtaking scenery of the ABC and Heysen Ranges, flora and fauna, geology and land management, with short distance of true four wheel driving are part of the " Alpana Experience."
